Tswalu - The Details
Tswalu is set in part of the great Kalahari ecosystem, a vast, desert-like environment that is being lovingly restored to its optimum natural state. This is a vast area (1,000 Sq Km which to put this into perspective is roughly twice the size of the Sabi Sands !) containing only one safari lodge and one private villa, ensuring that visitors have the place entirely to themselves. You are allocated a safari guide and tracker on arrival, and they are there for you until the sad day you depart.
Tswalu is a safari experience that doesn't mirror those of the Sabi Sands or other reserves, instead you have a goal for each drive for what you want to see. Whether you are after the rare and elsuive pangolin and aardvark or if you want to see the black-maned Kalahari lions, you can be sure to have some fantastic experiences whilst on game drive. With the luxury of having an animal sighting all to yourself, there is no rush in observing the animals you find. You can take your time and photograph in your own time.
All guests are invited to take a riding
safari, the fabulous horses are very calm and there are those to suit complete novices and experienced riders. After a beautiful afternoon or morning of riding through the red sand dunes you can finish up with a candlelit dinner under the stars or a wonderfully cooked breakfast.
Their ‘Junior Ranger’ safari program, tried and tested, is the best introduction to first-time safari kids, with plenty of walking, tracking and bush survival lessons to ensure a passion for life. The conservation ethos that created the place is central to all that everyone experiences here, a very positive and inspiring education in all respects.
The main property at Tswalu, the Motse, sits at the foot of the Korannaberg Mountains. Motse has eight secluded suites. Each suite has a bedroom with an open fire, an en-suite bathroom with both indoor and outdoor shower. Each private sun deck overlooks a waterhole. Two of the suites have been designed especially for families.. The main house has elevated decks and elegant lounges. The outdoor pool has views over the savannahs and guests can relax at the spa.
Set amidst two mountain ranges, the second lodge, Tarkuni, is more exclusive with a home of 5 suites with en suite bathrooms, outdoor showers, accommodating up to 10 guests. Tarkuni has its own team including a private chef to provide a personal service. Guests can dine by the traditional boma and can relax by Tarkuni’s outdoor pool. A private vehicle, personal field guide and tracker are available for guests to experience the safari. For other exclusive experiences in the bush, see our blog outlining
