Garonga Safari Camp has all the luxury you could need from safari, and at a third of the price of some of the more famed African wildlife areas. It has the fantastic intimacy of a rustic safari lodge, but with all the bells and whistles you could need. You can’t go wrong here for a relaxing stay in a great wildlife area, and in good proximity to the big South African airport hubs.

Garonga Safari Camp - The Facts

Set to the west of the wildlife-packed Kruger National Park, Makalali Game Reserve is the place to go for fantastic value opulence in the bush. Garonga is a perfect example of this, with six luxury suites boasting private outdoor decks and hammocks, indoor and outdoor showers, and a beautiful swimming pool set out from the main area.

The romance of luxury tented safaris is very much alive in this camp, with its canvas canopies, natural materials, and small head count. While more rustic camps would see guests walking on the dusty floor to their canvas home, Garonga has wooden walkways, and solid textured walls in the spacious rooms.

The airy main hub of the camp looks onto a bushy vista, with fabulous resident wildlife. Game drives can be action-packed with good big 5 concentrations, including rhino, lion, elephant and leopard. There’s also a chance to see the rare sable antelope.

Closer to camp, guests can enjoy Garonga’s sleep out deck, which is a 20-minute drive from the main camp and offers an immersive and unforgettable experience spending a night under the stars. It overlooks a waterhole, so your safari can continue into the night, and a staff member is close by to make sure you can rest easy. There’s also the unique star bath experience, which is a remote tub under the Milky Way. Add in a brilliant spa - which Garonga happens to have - and you’ve got yourself safari bliss.
