Best Luxury Safari Lodges
With plenty of options to choose from, selecting your safari accommodation isn't easy. Different lodges can offer different experiences depending on what you are after from your holiday. Some lodges will only have small guest occupancy and offer intimate experiences, whereas other camps will cater for larger groups.
Camps can also be mobile meaning that they are not permanent structures and they will relocate depending on the season and where the animals are most likely to be. Due to the accommodation manoeuvring regularly, these camps are normally made up from a number of luxury tents. These tents however, dispel all traditional myths of what may come to mind if you think of camping. Their furnishings are luxurious and all your needs will be met. It is very hard to rank Africa lodges with one simple measure! Our ranking is subjective and tries to reflect value for money as well as overall quality. Therefore we may award just three stars to certain 'five star' lodges in the hotel, or five stars to some superb, unashamed 'three star' hotels that are great value for money.

Run by the four sons of the famous Louw Schoeman, the family operate flying safaris up Namibia’s famous Skeleton Coast. Accommodation is in simple small camps set up in breathtaking location. Solio - Aberdares
Spectacular place to arrive in Kenya - a simply unique environment rich in white and black rhinos. Our guide (Jonathan) was first class (in fact, he's applying to be one of only 30 gold rated guides in the whole of the country). He is extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of flora and fauna and very happy to answer all of our questions. Within 10 mins of arriving at the property we came across a pride of 16 lions lazing around a buffalo carcass. They have over 100 rhinos in the conservancy and it's an amazing opportunity to see rhinos up close - in other parks you only see them through the binoculars. The lodge itself is also incredible - beautiful, spacious rooms and the best food we had anywhere on safari. The "Bush Breakfast" is a must do!- S Swaminathan

Somalisa Camp and Acacia - Hwange
Our View
Somalisa Camp and Somalisa Acacia are both owned by African Bush Camps. Located on an acacia island in their own private concession in Hwange National Park, a private and intimate stay can be assured. In front of both camps is an elephant pool which regularly sees large herds of elephants come to drink. This is just one of the highlights in one of safari's best destinations.

Somalisa Expeditions - Hwange
Our View
Somalisa Expeditions, owned and run by African Bush Camps is an incredible small tented camp set deep within one of the best parks in Southern Africa. This old school style camp offers an authentic safari set in a quiet area of the park amongst a grove of acacia trees on a small floodplain with a small waterhole in front of the camp that is regularly visited by roaming elephants.Our Rating:

Sossusvlei Desert Lodge - Sossusvlei
Our View
&Beyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge is a fantastic property that carries the high standards we have come to expect from any &Beyond property. Located a couple of hours drive from the famous Sossusvlei dunes, Sossusvlei Desert Lodge is located outside of the busier Sossusvlei area and is a great choice for people looking for a quieter experience. The lodges main selling point however is that it is home to the countries best Observatory – nights here are absolutely stunning. A recent refurbishment in 2011 has meant this lodge is looking better than ever.

Spekes Camp - Masai Mara Reserve
Our View
Speke’s Camp is situated on the edge of the Maasai Mara Reserve, surrounded by fabulous indigenous trees overhanging the Olare Orok River. Small, intimate and very reasonably priced this is a no frills camp that really delivers well and is fantastic value for money.

Our View
A new Kwando Safaris camp, Splash Camp opened in June 2018. Within the private Kwara Reserve, this camp hosts a very friendly, authentic and relaxed atmosphere in a fantastic animal dense area. Kwando have always put customer experience at the heart of everything they do and the new Splash Camp is no exception to this.

Stanley Safari Lodge - Livingstone and Victoria Falls
Our View
Unique due to the fact that it is the only lodge in Livingstone that has a view of the actual Falls, Stanley Safari Lodge lacks the atmosphere of other lodges in the area simply due to the fact that it is not on the water. In a nutshell, the Zambezi is the reason to come to this area, and when staying at Stanley Safari Lodge you are absolutely miles from it! It is fairly good value and has recently been done up really nicely however the location puts the nail in the coffin and for that reason alone we recommend elsewhere.
