Somalisa Expeditions, owned and run by African Bush Camps is an incredible small tented camp set deep within one of the best parks in Southern Africa. This old school style camp offers an authentic safari set in a quiet area of the park amongst a grove of acacia trees on a small floodplain with a small waterhole in front of the camp that is regularly visited by roaming elephants.

Somalisa Expeditions - The Details

The main dining area is large, spacious and set out like a typical safari style mess tent with lots of dark woods and canvas. The food and service at Somalisa Expeditions is truly above and beyond what you would imagine from a simple style camp.

The camp is small, with just six Meru style tents offering an old school safari in a modern, stylish manner that provides an intimate and private stay. Each tent has its own views overlooking the floodplain, each with their own private facilities and bucket showers that add to the old school feel which gives the camp its true character.

Somalisa Expeditions is the most luxurious of the Expedition Camps run by ABC. With raised tents and wooden decking, these are the little additions you won't find at camps like Zambezi Expeditions.

The game viewing from camp takes place in both the Somalisa concession and the National Park, giving you the best of both worlds.
Nothing quite beats sitting at a waterhole, sipping a G&T whilst watching hundreds of elephants plunge into the water, quenching their thirst and frolicking in the mud. It's as good as it sounds!

Game viewing is best during the dry season (July-September), especially when the vegetation is at its thinnest and water is scarce, resulting in large concentrations of the bigger mammalian species, however the green season is the time for birders. With a variety of habitats ranging from teak woodlands to grasslands, a plethora of migratory birds descend to the region adding even more colour to the emerald green landscape.

For those with photography at the forefront of their minds, numerous log hides are strategically scattered (often at waterholes) throughout the concession, allowing you to enjoy uninterrupted game viewing without the need of a vehicle. The log hides also make the perfect place to stop for a coffee and rusk break!
