The Dhow (traditional boats) are world renowned, especially as legend has that Sur was the home of the Legendary Sinbad the sailor. It is a excellent destination to rent a boat for a few days and explore the Omani Coast line. The Turtles of Ras Al Jinaiz, a protected wildlife area is also highly recommend in this area for the nature enthusiasts out there.

As a port city, the history of Sur is palpable around every turn and under every white-washed stone. The shipyards even today produce wooden vessels which were such an integral part of their history, making this a history enthusiast's dream. If you are a lover of naval history then this is well worth a visit. Generally, apart from sauntering around exploring the local history and also a few relaxed boat rides, this is a seadise city to relax in.
