Okavango Explorers Camp is the epitome of old school safari magic. Its decor, with oak furnishings and Persian rugs, goes some of the way in convincing guests as such, but its quality isn’t confined to the interiors. With knowledgeable guides, a true explorer feel to the camp, and a brilliant density of wildlife in the Selinda Reserve, this camp is a real find.

Okavango Explorers Camp - The Facts

Okavango Explorers Camp straddles the upper Okavango Delta and the famed Selinda Spillway, providing guests with a unique experience of two incredible ecosystems. The 130,000 hectare Selinda Reserve is home to an impressive array of species from predators to a staggering 9,000 elephants in dry season, and a good number of the rarer antelope such as the elusive eland.

A stay under canvas in this slice of Okavango Delta wilderness is always going to be incredible, but the luxury feel of this intrepid offering will make it even more so. It’s not a place for modern extravagances such as infinity pools, but it is luxurious in its world class guest experience, from the food to the guiding.

Okavango Explorers offers all the regular activities in the region such as game drives, walking and mekoro trips (though you needn’t go too far for safari action, as this camp is very well situated in the middle of a brilliant wildlife area). The boma area is simple with canvas chairs neatly set around a blazing fire and the dinner set up is equally authentic, with a huge slab of a wooden table lit by candles and the night’s sky.

Each 12 tents have a spacious bedroom and separate bathroom area in what is an impressive under-canvas complex, but here it’s not really about what’s happening indoors. This is not the right camp for you if you dream about relaxing by a pool with a cocktail in hand, but it’s one for the safari-mad - and those looking for an uber comfortable, traditional safari experience.
