Our View
Kasaka is hands down the best value lodge in the Lower Zambezi. It is further away from the National Park and perhaps not the most aesthetic camp around, but the rest of this area is seriously pricey and Kasaka opens up this stunning part of Zambia to those on a slightly lower budget who are after a top knotch experience.
Kasaka River Lodge - The Details
Kasaka River Lodge is found nestled on the banks of the Zambezi River in a game management area. Surrounded by natural bush and just 4km from the Lower Zambezi National Park, this tented camp offers an authentic and memorable safari experience.
Each chalet is secluded amongst the native flora, separated between the 'tame' side and the 'wild' side. The cultivated half of camp has beautifully manicured gardens with a swimming pool in the middle, with the other, more natural, half connected to the main lodge by overhead walkways to allow the wildlife to pass through camp.
There is a lovely main area of the lodge that melts into the surrounding setting of tamarind trees, most meals are eaten here with other guests in camp. For small groups or families of 4 their is the Hippo Pod, a short walk from the main camp and is completely private with your own area for eating, relaxing and a small private pool to cool off while you look over the Zambezi.
We recommend staying on the 'wild' side of camp (try and get the wild mango suite) and don't expect huge rooms all with river views, but do get ready for great guiding, a wonderful atmosphere and lots to do; especially when it comes to exploring on the river.
There are plenty of activities on offer from this lodge, including fishing, canoeing, boat cruises, walking safaris, day and night drives, community visits including a canoe/boat trip along the river to Tsika Island, this is a really rustic and traditional camp run by the community and great fun for an overnight adventure - you will need to book in advance.
