Located on the border of Zimbabwe and Zambia on the mighty Zambezi River, the Victoria Falls (or Mosi-oa-Tunya; 'the smoke that thunders') is the world's largest curtain of falling water and one of Africa's most famous sites.

The Victoria Falls are located on the border of Zimbabwe and Zambia. Justifiably famous, the Falls are a must-see on any Southern Africa itinerary and acts as an unbelievable setting to relax in and unwind in in between the excitement of safari. The Falls are best viewed from the Zambian side, though with the univisa allowing free access to both Zimbabwe and Zambia it is worth seeing the falls from both sides.
What to do on a Victoria Falls Holiday & Safari?
As well as the famous adrenaline activities such as white rafting, bungee jumping and micro-lighting over the falls, there are a number of more sedate and interesting activities including cruises and canoe trips on the calm waters of the Upper Zambezi.
It is also possible to visit the national parks for game drives on either side of the falls, or even take a day trip into Chobe National Park, Botswana. Victoria Falls is also very accessible from South Africa, so if budget and time allow, then a Kruger safari in the Sabi Sands and exploring Cape Town and the surrounding wine regions are a fantastic addition to an adventurous African holiday.

The best option on the Zimbabwe side of the Falls, in a perfect position, is the newly refurbished Grand Old Dame of the Falls, the Victoria Falls Hotel. If you want more of a safari lodge feel, the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge fits the bill in a great position overlooking a waterhole, or alternatively the smaller tented Elephant Camp is another good option.

Alternatively on the Zambia side of the Falls, there are a number of small lodges (River Club, Tongabezi, Sindabezi and Toka Leya) and two larger hotels, The Royal Livingstone and the Avani Victoria Falls Resort (formerly the Zambezi Sun).
