Thonga Beach Lodge - The Details
The small and intimate Thonga Beach Lodge has twenty-four stylishly and cool eco sensitive thatched bush suites With either an ocean view or a forest view, you can be sure to feel immersed by nature. The deluxe rooms also have private plunge pools, a perfect addition for a honeymoon whilst there are also two larger family units.
Whilst South Africa is certainly not your typical beach destination, heading to the coast to end your South Africa itinerary after your exciting and enthralling safari will provide a serene and tranquil finish to an unforgettable holiday.
Whilst sunbathing is possible, staying here is about exploring your natural surroundings as much as relaxing in the sun. There are a number of great activities to take part in from the lodge, including kayaking on the nearby Lake Sibaya, there are also guided forest walks, birding, snorkelling, scuba diving (there is an onsite qualified dive instructor), turtle tracking along with some great fishing as well.
The only downside about this beach is that the ocean is tidal and can often be quite rough depending on the time of year. However, the accommodation is stylish and with the luxury of the plunge pools, some may not mind about the ocean being not an absolute certainty.
Thonga is a barefoot luxury lodge and is ideally situated on the East Coast of the country. Only a few hours transfer from
Phinda Game Reserve, combining the two is a no-brainer for those seeking a safari and beach getaway.
With Thonga being so close to Phinda, our recommendation would be to start your itinerary in Cape Town. A few nights in this beautiful city is the perfect way to sleep off any jetlag and alllows you to explore the beautiful natural surroundings as well as the multitude of shops and bars. Any time in Cape Town is certainly worth your while, and we receommend at least three nights as a minimum in the city.
From here Phinda is the perfect safari destination, offering a plethora of flora and fauna accompanied by some of the highest service and hospitality in the industry. Phinda offers something for everyone. If you are on honeymoon, Vlei or Rock Lodge are intimate and private whilst Mountain, being slightly larger, is perfect for families or large groups. Forest Lodge offers a unique experience in the very rare sand forest but is equipped to provide a first-class service no matter your needs.
After the frivolities of Cape Town and an enthralling safari full of late nights and early mornings, resting and relaxing at Thonga is the best way to finish your South Africa holiday. Due to South Africa's excellent transport links, getting from destination to destination really is very easy and combining these three components will give you an excellently valued luxury experience.
