The Seychelles can broadly be divided into the two main islands; Mahe and Praslin, but the main beauty of the archipelago can be found in the separate private island experiences which it is so famed for. Mahe and Praslin have some great beaches, and some not-so-good ones! The best beaches are unfortunately public and not tied to a specific hotel, which is a shame. Mostly, there are big all-inclusive hotels, but there are a few boutique hotels. The problems with these is that they are fairly expensive for what you actually get.

The best hotels in Seychelles

We think you get an awful lot more for your money on the various private islands, rather than the main islands of Mahe and Praslin. The private islands epitomise the Indian Ocean ideal which has long been associated with the Seychelles. If money is no object, then it absolutely has to be North Island which is heralded as undoubtedly one of the very finest private island experiences in the world. It is around $2,700 per person per night.

If you are more budget conscious, but don’t mind splashing out a bit on an extremely special beach experience then there are a variety of reasonably prices other private islands which offer an exceptional experience. Our pick of these is Dennis Island which is $,400 per person per night.

Seychelles luxury hotels

When it comes to The Seychelles, unless you have pockets deep enough to afford the little private islands and the luxury which this brings, then you are better to set your sights on other Indian Ocean havens which are more accessible, and with less inflated prices. Otherwise you simply don’t get much for your money!

Banyan Tree - Mahe

Our View

When the Banyan Tree first opened it was one of a kind, huge private suites complete with a private pool, terrace and gardens. In fact you rarely needed to leave your room.  Set on a heavenly and private beach its only drawback is the price and the fact that in our summer months the main beach can be dangerous to swim off.

    Ephelia - Mahe
We stayed at Ephelia on Mahe this Easter, with our children. The absolute bliss of this place is that everything is beautifully done; from buffet breakfast to iced water on the beach. The children loved the zip lines, through the forest, and the beach was fabulous. A great family holiday hotel, and a superb start to our Seychelles adventure. - A Hope

    L'Archipel - Praslin

    Our View

One of the better mid range hotels on Praslin - it is a close call between L'Archipel and La Reserve.  L'Archipel has a reasonable beach though is close to the famous beach at Anse Lazio.  Nice but simple rooms stretched over the extensive gardens and great food.
