Our View

Set in the foothills of Mount Kenya, Olepangi Farm is a real home away from home. It’s not somewhere to go if you want all the pristine, modern bells and whistles - although it does have a fantastic pool with sweeping views. The accommodation is more traditional than cutting edge, but all in all, this farmhouse offers a fantastic base in a setting you could stick on the back of a postcard and write home about.

Olepangi Farm - The Facts

It doesn’t feel right to call Olepangi a hotel, as it’s actually a series of mini retreats. Olepangi House is the main offering, and can be booked out on a three or five bedroom basis. To the north it boasts views of Lolldaigas, and to the south Mount Kenya. With a charming thatched roof, high ceilings and tasteful decor, it would be the ultimate family getaway base.

For honeymooners, the Round House is perfect, with its private lounge, balcony and spectacular views across the valley and river. It also features its own outdoor bathroom including a loo with a view, and outdoor shower. The architecture is also unique, as its thatched roof is almost tipi-like in structure, but with solid walls and dramatic triangular windows. The decor is old fashioned, but the experience is unique. If you’re a party of more than two, then the optional addition of the bunk room means up to eight kids or young adults can sleep happily on the lowest deck of the building.

Thesiger Cottage sits next to the Round House and includes one bedroom with two 5ft wide four-poster beds, as well as its own balcony and ensuite bathroom.

Burton & Speke is a cottage perfect for families. With two en-sutie bedrooms, one is comprised of a double bed, while the other has two singles - but can be joined to make a double if needed in the case of two couples.

Villa Gorilla has two bedrooms with a private living area and kitchen. It’s the best option for groups of four adults, as the quirky offering has that bit more space than the other buildings. Both with their own en-suite and private veranda, it also has a communal outdoor eating space.

Markham cottage has just one bedroom, and it’s cosy but private - ideal for a romantic trip.

Elsewhere, the main area’s pool is the heart of the complex, and all meals are served in this area unless you opt for private dining, which can be arranged down at the deck. Guests can also enjoy the ‘party house’ - don’t worry, it’s not really a party house, but more a place to unwind, maybe with a G&T in hand.

Activities include horse riding, forest walks, trekking, massages, and of course safari.
