The best authentic gorilla trekking lodges in Uganda
At the lower end of the budget for gorilla trekking accommodation is Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge which is an extremely comfortable and convenient option. It also happens to have stunning views of the surrounding forests, and excellent guiding – we cannot fault it! It is without a doubt our favourite best value lodge in the region.
The best luxury gorilla trekking lodges in Uganda
Accommodation does not tend to get much more luxurious than Cloud’s Lodge which has the best views in Uganda and is the ultimate option to base yourself at whilst on a gorilla trekking adventure. Clouds is only moderately luxurious, so if you are a sucker for luxury and are set on a gorilla trek then you are better to look into Rwanda options, as it has an established high quality low volume approach to tourism, whereas Uganda is more of a new kid on the block and is only beginning to cater for more luxurious standards.

Located in the extraordinarily remote Kidepo Valley National Park, Apoka is a must do for any safari die hards. The park is so far off the beaten track, right up in the North of Uganda on the border with South Sudan, that it just isn't right for every trip. But for those willing to commit to the time and expense of getting up here, it is well worth it - game viewing here is exceptional and the park has come to be known as Uganda's Serengeti (but with far less visitors than the real one!). Apoka has a prime location in the park and is brilliantly run, really the only option that we would recommend. Our View
In the heart of Murchison Falls National Park is Baker's Lodge - a brilliant lodge and a highlight of Uganda. Set on the white Nile the views out of Camp across the River are beautiful. It is unmatched in terms of tranquility and is the perfect base to explore the Falls, game drive in the Park and much more. Our View
Just North of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Buhoma enjoys incredibly easy access to the park and is a great base from which to explore the area and gorilla trek. Sister lodge to Ishsha Wilderness and Baker's Lodge, these guys really know what they are doing and are one of the best operators in Uganda. Our View
Set in the hills surrounding the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, there is no better base than Bwindi Lodge from which to explore the surrounding jungle on safari. Set right in the heart of the action and with beautiful views, this cosy lodge is perfect for relaxing after a day trekking to find the incredible mountain gorillas. There are very, very few places left on Earth where such a special experience with an endangered species can be had.Our View
Clouds lodge has to have one of the most amazing settings of any of the lodges we work with in Uganda. It is located high up into the hills and the lodge commands views over the entire region, it really is a magical little place. A real favourite in the office here due to its unpretentious charm and links with the local community, people do need to know that the advantage of the location comes with a slight negative – it can be a hard walk back up to Clouds Lodge after a long day of gorilla trekking! The rewards of making the trek back however are one of the most charming hotels we work with. Our View
Sanctuary Lodge’s Gorilla Forest Lodge, is actually run by the luxury travel company Abercrombie and Kent. The lodge has a fabulous location with the local gorilla group literally looking into clients rooms on a number of occasions. Gorilla’s peeping into your rooms cannot be guaranteed to every client, but the guarantee of A&K’s excellent service is there. A great lodge to explore the area from and a great lodge for clients who, after a potentially long gorilla trek, do not want to face climbing up the hills to Clouds lodge, the only other top end gorilla lodge in the park. Our View
The Ishasha Wilderness Camp is idyllically set on the lush Ntungwe River, this small and friendly camp has ten spacious canvas tented rooms all with a private veranda, perfect for sipping your late afternoon G&T while watching the animals down on the river. Our View

Sitting atop the escarpment to the North East of Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kyambura Gorge Lodge offers a great base from which to explore the National Park or for hiking in the Gorge. It's position gives sweeping views over the vast park below and the gorge to the North - on a clear day the Rwenzori Mountains rise up far in the distance completing the picture of this beautiful corner of Uganda. Our View
Tucked away in the beautiful countryside surrounding Kibale Forest, Kyaninga is one of Uganda's best lodges. Just a scenic one hour drive to Kibale Forest for a chimp trek, but there is a lot more to it than that. Numerous beautiful walks nad hikes can be done straight from the lodge and it overlooks a stunning Crater Lake perfect for a swim, a kayak or a paddle board. Focused as much on the local community as they are on providing an exceptional stay in Uganda, Kyaninga is a gem.your budget and travel dates, and your money is protected
