San Camp - The Details
The Makgadikgadi themselves are totally unique and San Camp epitomises everything that makes the area so special. With seriously passionate guides loyal to their camp (a rarity in Botswana these days!) activities are diverse and guide levels are set very high. The San bushmen walks are pretty much as good as any tracking walks anywhere and the quad bikes are outrageously good fun.
Private adjacent bucket showers with long drop toilets, canvas and wood basins, copper water jugs and paraffin lamps provide a rustic but comfortable touch in keeping with the stark environment of the surrounding area. Your stay at San Camp will provide you with a unique desert experience. Depending on the season and weather permitting, activities include a game drive into the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park where you will learn about unique desert species such as brown hyena, aardwolf, gemsbok and springbok.
San Camp offers the Earth, stripped naked. And, such restraint holds its own charms. And this place could not be more different from everywhere. San Camp is the Stewart Granger Memorial Collection of 1940s safari tents, with bucket showers, flush loos, four-poster beds, mosquito net canopies, percale sheets, and paraffin lamps. There is no electricity at San Camp. Six white canvas tents twinned with a dramatic location, combine to create an oasis of civilization in what can be the harshest of stark environments.A truly unique
